Turn Over a New Leaf Ritual
My family and I rarely celebrate some of the more traditional holidays that are largely marketed. However, we still have the desire to create our own traditions and celebrations. Spring is one of the seasons that we choose to celebrate. And as part of this year’s celebration, we will be exchanging gifts.
But first, we will take part in a “turning a new leaf” ritual. We will collect a few items that each of us no longer needs. Everyone will have a bay leaf and write on one side, an old habit or idea that we desire to let go of. On the other side, we will write the opposite habit or idea that we intend to foster in.
Then, we will proceed with opening our gifts as to symbolize welcoming in something new and better into our lives. The old items that we collect at the beginning of the ritual will either be donated or disposed of. Grab these bay leaves here if you’d like to perform a similar ritual.
Decorate a Spring Altar

Of course, no magical celebration is complete without a beautiful altar. It’s the perfect visual effect to welcome in the season and get you into a celebratory mood. Using your entryway table will also suffice here if desired. You can add treasure from your backyard, handmade items, store-bought or a mix of all three.
Whatever puts you in a springtime mood, would work great. I personally have a mini tabletop tree to where I can switch out my seasonal decor as desired. It’s sitting on a small coffee table in my living room corner.
Go for a Walk to Identify Spring Plants
You may or may not be the foraging type. However, whether or not you intend to collect plants, it’s always a great way to connect with nature when you know what is growing around you. Spring brings about lots of plant allies that can support us just in time for the season change. I like to keep a plant identification app handy for when I see a plant that catches my eye.
You may not even have to go very far. Personally, my own backyard offers various wildflowers that I like to get to know from time to time. Some even believe that the types of plants that grow in our own yards are the ones that can provide benefits for those who live there. I know that henbit grows in my yard year after year. It is believed to be helpful for those who suffer from hay fever, which has been my nemesis ever since childhood.
One spring, I was even intrigued to find wild garlic growing in my own backyard. Everything may not even be edible, but still you just might find something beautiful if nothing else.
Detoxify Your Body
Springtime is all about renewal and rebirth. Therefore, it only makes sense to release what is no longer serving us figuratively as well as literally. That can mean physically and internally as well. One herb that can be beneficial in helping the body to release waste is dandelion which is great for digestion.
Dandelion works for detoxing by helping the body to stimulate bile production which helps rid the body of fats and toxins. Noncoincidental, dandelions are quite plentiful in early spring. You can brew some dandelion root tea and sip it while you reflect on the approaching season. Check out my go-to brand for plenty of my favorite teas here.
Declutter Your Space

As mentioned above, the spring is a great time for renewal and rebirth. Therefore, this is a great time to take a look at your space and give it some renewing of its’ own. As I said in my “Turn over a new leaf” ritual decluttering is great for freeing up space for more blessings.
You’ve probably already heard of the saying, “out with the old, in with the new.” Well spring is the perfect time to represent that with some action behind it.
So, go ahead and clear out some of those sweaters that you didn’t touch all winter long. Or pull out some of those kitchen appliances that you’ve been holding on to for years. Your future self will thank you for freeing up that physical as well as mental space.
I would love to hear from you. How will you be celebrating spring on this year? Let me know down below.
